Training
The City of Loudon Fire Department is a member of the Tennessee Commission on Firefighting who is responsible for the certification of individuals in the firefighting profession in the state of Tennessee. The mission of the Tennessee Commission on firefighting is to raise the standards of firefighting personnel who engage in its certification and training programs by enabling Tennessee firefighters to be better prepared through training courses facilitating the skills and knowledge necessary to save lives and property, and to vigorously promote firefighter safety, efficiency, decorum, and ethical considerations throughout the certification process. The City of Loudon Fire Department meets or exceeds all training standards set forth by this commission through monthly departmental training, daily shift readiness training, officer development training, Physical fitness training and practical/written exams through the commission. The Tennessee Commission on firefighting is an accredited member of IFSAC (International Fire Service Accreditation Congress) whose mission is to increase the level of professionalism of the fire service through accreditation of those entities who work with Assemblies within the Congress, for the accreditation of fire service training and/or education.
Firefighters of the City of Loudon are required to conduct a minimum of 240 training hours per year. The City of Loudon Fire Department also conducts 40 hours of in-service training.
Firefighters with the City of Loudon Fire Department are certified in the following areas:
All firefighters must complete a yearly class and driving course in emergency vehicle operations. Our firefighters receive training on a yearly rotation in the following areas: domestic violence, sudden infant death syndrome, firefighter safety, and firefighter stress management.
Firefighters of the City of Loudon are required to conduct a minimum of 240 training hours per year. The City of Loudon Fire Department also conducts 40 hours of in-service training.
Firefighters with the City of Loudon Fire Department are certified in the following areas:
- Firefighting: Certified through the Commission on Firefighting our department has firefighters certified at the Fire officer I level, Fire Instructor I level, Firefighter I, Firefighter II and public fire and life safety educators.
- Emergency Medical Services: Certified through the Tennessee Department of health, Emergency Medical Services Division. Our Department consists mostly of firefighters certified at the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-IV) level; we also have firefighters certified at the first responder level.
- Hazardous Materials Response: Certified through Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA). Our firefighters are certified in this area ranging from hazardous materials awareness level, hazardous materials technician level, up to hazardous materials specialist.
- Vehicle Extrication: Certified through the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads (TARS). Our firefighters are all certified at the vehicle extrication rescue technician level.
